NEW STUDENT LOUNGE TO
SPUR MORE COMPETITIVE IDEAS AND INNOVATIONS – UPPER IOWA UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT.
KUCHING: A
recently launched SEGi College Sarawak Campus Student Lounge will help to spur
more educational activities, said Upper Iowa University (UIU) President Dr William
Duffy.
Dr William
Duffy commented on the new student lounge as an avenue of excellence and a
conducive venue to exchange ideas between students and serve as a perfect birthplace
of innovations.
“I am very
happy to see such an environment here and I fully encourage all students to conduct
lively educational activities here. It is such a perfect place to share ideas
and perhaps it would nurture some great ideas for the common good,” said Dr Duffy.
He added
that the programme was simultaneously coherent with the American Degree
Programme (ADP) which also shares the area in the college.
He
mentioned that ADP is a hands-on course and there is a need to have more rooms
for discussion and to encourage exchange of ideas.
He also
lauded SEGi College Sarawak for making such a tireless effort in ensuring the
ADP administration is smooth and making the programme a preferred choice
amongst students.
“Your
students are very active and outspoken. This is a kind of students we need in
today’s rapid global adaptation and is viably changing on a daily basis,” he
added
“We would support the local team members here
as much as we can to continue our excellent programmes here.”
Earlier
on, Dr Duffy visited the college’s Moot Court, Graphic Design Theatre, Hotel
Mock room and also the Sarawak Cultural Village, where he was impressed with
Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage.
Dr William
Duffy was accompanied by his wife Sharon, together with other dignitaries
including the Vice President for International Education Ismael Betancourt
Velez, Associate Professor of Athletic Training/ Director of Athletic Training
Education, Angela Leete, President of the UIU Student Government Association,
Timothy Reub, UIU Director for Malaysia Operation, Mr. Kalaichelvan Ponniah,
